Doubling the weight does not double the size. A 2 carat round measures about 8 mm across against roughly 6.5 mm for a 1 carat, because the extra weight is spread through depth as well as width. Face-up, the difference is clear on the hand, but customers often expect more, so it helps to show them the two side by side.

At this size, grading becomes easier to see. Inclusions that disappear in a 1 carat stone can be visible in a larger table, and body colour shows more across a wider face, so buyers who were comfortable with a lower clarity at one carat often move up a grade here. Filter by colour and clarity together and read the report notes, not just the grade letters.

The 2.00–2.49 band covers the stones most 2 carat orders ask for. Stones near 2.40 face up noticeably larger than a 2.00, so if your setting has a fixed seat, check diameter before weight. For earrings, pairs of about a carat each are often a better fit than two 2 carat stones; that range has its own page. Every certified stone carries an IGI or GIA report and a laser inscription.

What size is a 2 carat round?

About 8 mm in diameter for a well-cut stone, compared with roughly 6.5 mm at 1 carat.

Should I buy a higher clarity at 2 carats?

Often, yes. Inclusions are easier to see in a larger table, so many jewelers move up a clarity grade at this weight.
