The round brilliant is the reference cut of the diamond trade. Its 57 or 58 facets are arranged around a circular outline so that light entering the crown is returned through the table from almost every angle, which is why rounds show the most brightness of any shape. It is also the only shape GIA gives a cut grade, so two rounds can be compared on paper with more confidence than two fancy shapes.

That light return works in your favour on colour and clarity. A brilliant pattern breaks up reflections and masks small inclusions and faint body colour better than a step cut does, so many jewelers buy rounds a grade lower than they would accept in an emerald or Asscher. Use the colour, clarity and cut filters to see where that line sits for your customers.

Rounds are the default for solitaires, studs, halos and line work, and they are the easiest shape to match in pairs. Every certified stone carries an IGI or GIA report and a laser inscription on the girdle. We sell to jewelers, retailers and manufacturers only, from our Los Angeles office. Select the stones you want and send a request; we reply with pricing and availability.
