A 1 carat oval faces up larger than a 1 carat round. Because the weight is spread along a longer outline, its length is usually well past the 6.5 mm diameter of a round of the same weight, and customers see a bigger stone for the money they spend on a full carat. That is the main reason ovals sell so well at this size.

Spread still varies from stone to stone. Two 1.05 ct ovals can differ noticeably in length if one is cut deeper or has a lower ratio, so check the measurements line on each report and work out the length-to-width ratio before you compare. The 1 mm preview grid shows the outline at true proportion.

Starting the range at 1.00 ct keeps every stone over the carat threshold that most orders name. If you are making oval studs or a pair of side stones, match on length and ratio first; a mismatch in shape is more visible than a few points of weight. Add both stones to one request so we can price them as a pair. Certified ovals carry an IGI or GIA report and a laser inscription.

Does a 1 carat oval look bigger than a 1 carat round?

Yes, its length is greater than the 6.5 mm diameter of a 1 carat round, so it faces up larger at the same weight.

How do I match two ovals?

Match length, width and ratio first, then colour and clarity. Shape differences show more than small weight differences.
