2 carat emerald cut lab-grown diamonds
Emerald cuts from 2.00 to 2.49 carats, where the step-cut look really opens up.
Two carats is where many buyers feel the emerald cut comes into its own. The table is long enough for the step facets to read as clear bands of light, and the shape has enough presence to carry a ring on its own without a halo. It is also a weight at which the cut is less common than rounds and ovals, which helps a retail case stand apart.
The trade-off is visibility. Inclusions and colour that were borderline at one carat are now easy to see through the open table, and colour tends to gather at the corners. Many jewelers buying at this size move up one grade on both colour and clarity, and they read the comments section of the report, not only the headline grades.
Check ratio and corners as well. A ratio near 1.45 gives the classic rectangle; anything much lower starts to look square. Corners should be cut evenly, and the outline should be straight, because a crooked side shows plainly in a step cut. Every certified emerald carries an IGI or GIA report and a laser inscription. We sell wholesale only, from our Los Angeles office.
Is 2 carats a good size for an emerald cut?
Many buyers think so: the step facets read clearly and the stone has presence without a halo.
What should I check besides grades?
Ratio, evenly cut corners and straight sides. All three show plainly in a step cut.
